When we were planning our Euro(road)trip, we came up with an itinerary that would allow us to visit with some friends that live in Hamburg, Germany. Although the trip to get there was rough due to a closed track, our friends were absolute rockstars and picked us up from the Hamburg train station late at night when we arrived. Some pictures/videos of the hectic travel day below…

The following day, we had an incredible time catching up with our friends who have 2 boys around the same ages as our girls. While they dug holes and chased each other around in the backyard, us adults got to catch up.
The following day, we visited Wildpark Lüneburger Heide with our friends. Wildparks in Germany are all very similar in that they have animal enclosures with playgrounds sprinkled throughout. Out of the handful we’ve been to, this was one of the best. When we first entered the grounds, we were immediately met with a large playground and easily spent the first hour of our time watching the kids play.
After the playground, we made our way through the rest of the park, exploring different enclosures and a handful of interactive exhibits, including animal‑feeding areas to a show featuring falcons and eagles.

Overall opinion of Hamburg, Germany
We loved Hamburg! Not only because we got to spend time with friends, but also because we got to visit an incredible wildpark. If you get to visit Germany with young kids, regardless of the city you’re visiting, we highly recommend seeking out a wildpark. We definitely plan to return to Hamburg in the future, but next time we’ll carve out more than just a day and a half so we can see more of the city.
