12 Days Adventure Through Bavaria and Neighboring Countries

Day 1: Munich to Black Forest (after early morning arrival)

  • Pick up a rental car from the airport
  • Make a pitstop in Augsburg
  • Drive to Hohenzollern Castle
  • Drive to your AirBNB in the Black Forest (Tuningen was a good location for us!)
  • If staying in Tuningen, stop at Keyif Kebap & Pizza for dinner

Day 2: Triberg

  • Drive 30 minutes to Triberg
  • Stop for lunch at Tresor
  • Head to Triberg Falls
  • If visiting between April and October, visit Greifvogel- und Eulenpark to check out the bird presentation
  • Visit Haus der 1000 Uhren, or House of 1000 Clocks
  • Drive 20 minutes to Gutach where there is an excellent alpine coaster, Sommerrodelbahn Gutach
  • Head back towards your AirBNB, but first stop at the world’s largest cuckoo clock in Schwarzwald, Germany

Days 3: Unterkirnach

  • Sleep in, then drive to Unterkirnach to have lunch at Schlossbergstüble
  • Visit and have the kiddos play at neighboring 3-story playground, Speilscheune Unterkirnach

Day 4: Allensbach

  • Head to Wild- und Freizeitpark Allensbach
  • Drive to Untersee, or Lower Lake for dinner at Restaurant Zum Weinbrunnen

Day 5: Stuttgart

  • Drive to Stuttgart and visit Wilhelma Zoo

Day 6: Black Forest to Munich – Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, and Germany

  • Drive to Zurich and visit Lindt Chocolate Factory
  • Head to Liechtenstein and visit Kathedrale St. Florin and Vaduz Castle
  • Stop at Liechtenstein Center to get passports stamped for 3 euros each and take a picture on the throne
  • Head to your hotel in Munich

Day 7: Salzburg, Austria from Munich

  • Catch a train from Munich to Salzburg, Austria
  • Walk to Mirabell Palace and Gardens which was the shooting location in the Sound of Music where “Maria and the children dance around the Pegasus Fountain in front of the palace, singing the song ‘Do Re Mi’”
  • Walk to Mozart Wohnung and Hagenauer Haus
  • Walk to Residenzplatz, Residenz Fountain, and Salzburg Cathedral
  • Walk to Hohensalzburg Fortress
  • Take a boat cruise on boat cruise on the Salzach river
  • Stop at Augustiner Brau for dinner and beer

Day 8: Salzburg to Munich

  • Stop at Afro Coffee for a delicious breakfast and coffee
  • Head over to Haus Der Nature which is the museum of natural science and technology in Salzburg
  • Stop at Valdo Gatti for lunch
  • Walk across Makartsteg Love Lock Pedestrian Bridge and add your very own lock
  • Take the train back to Munich
  • If visiting Munich in April, head over to Frulingsfest and end the evening playing games, riding the carnival rides, and getting your fill of carnival food

Day 9: Munich – Parks and Biergartens

  • Go to French Touch for breakfast
  • Walk by Munich Frauenkirche, or the Munich Cathedral before walking towards Hofgarten
  • On the way to Hofgarten, take in the views of Odeonsplatz where Feldherrnhalle, Theatine Church, and Residenz Munchen are located. Also be sure to take in the sounds of the local musicians!
  • Walk through Hofgarten and head towards English Garden. Be sure to catch a nap by the water in English Garden if the weather is nice
  • After your nice, relaxing nap in the English Garden, walk to Chinesischer Turm, which is the second largest beer garden in Munich and home of a merry-go-round from 1913

Day 10: Munich – Frühlingsfest Day 2 (if going in April)

  • Head back to Frühlingsfest

Day 11: Munich – Marienplatz and Olympiapark

  • Walk to Marienplatz and check out Glockenspiel at Neues Rathaus at 11:00 AM
  • Go to Marienplatz train station and to catch the 20-minute train to Olympiapark
  • Check out Sea Life Munich and a local exhibit like the Disney 100 exhibit
  • Head back to Marienplatz and head to Germany’s largest Lego store before grabbing dinner at Augustiner Klosterwirt right outside of the Munich Cathedral.

Day 12: Day trip to Hohenschwangau and Odenthal

  • Eat breakfast at Irmi
  • Take a private tour by Bavarian Day Tours to Neuschwanstein Castle
  • Stop at Freizeitpark Märchenwald
  • Head back to your hotel for your final night in Munich
  • Fly home the following morning
